Category: New

If you want to have an interesting corporate party in Odessa, a birthday, or an advertising exhibition, then immersion in a nonexistent world created with the help of modern technologies is exactly what will make your event unforgettable.
With Valve Index VR glasses, what is happening around will be so realistic that guests will forget that they are in a non-existent location.

New from Valve

Valve officially introduced the new Index VR headset in May 2019, which immediately attracted the attention of many gamers. Developers first created their product and gave it their name. Valve Index review shows that it is the most advanced gadget on the market, providing a truly realistic immersion in the virtual world.

The device is equipped with an accelerometer, gyroscope, and motion sensor for a more realistic effect of interaction with the virtual world. Convenient manipulators allow you to hone your fighting skills to defeat the enemy.

Valve VR headset benefits

The advantages of the headset include:

  • clarity of the picture. The image quality in games depends on such factors as pixel arrangement, frame rate, screen response time. When developing the gadget, this was taken into account, so the Valve Index provides a clear picture;
  • high precision lenses. Innovative optics of glasses provide excellent visibility, wide angle of view, no distortion at the edge of the picture;
  • advanced acoustics. External speakers do not touch the ear and create the illusion of sound that enhances the realism of what is happening around;
  • comfort in use. The design is versatile and can adapt to any head size;
  • Steam support. Gamers will appreciate the large selection of games and virtual entertainment. The glasses are compatible with various products of the Steam platform.

Valve Index Review

The headset has some pretty impressive specs. The main feature of the VR-set is the most accurate and fast response "high fidelity". VR glasses are equipped with 2 improved liquid crystal displays with a high degree of filling the interpixel space, a modern audio system, high-precision lenses equipped with two elements.

Valve has introduced interesting solutions to the gadget that will help users get the most out of it. The Lighthouse navigation system is used to operate the set. The same navigation is used in the HTC Vive. On opposite sides of the playing space, two laser stations are installed, which register any position of the controllers with the help of external beacons.

High-tech Knuckles controllers are the best on the market today, as they provide the player with complete freedom of hand movement. They have 87 different sensors that track finger position and grip strength. The controller stays securely in your hand, even if your fingers are unclenched. The device is individually configured for each user, so it takes a long time to calibrate.

The glasses now have LCDs rather than OLEDs. Their resolution is 1440x1600 units, which is much higher than the parameters used in the previous analogs. The developers claim that this doubles the number of subpixels. The frame rate on the display is 120 Hz, in the experimental mode, it is 144 Hz.

Resolution is not the only advantage of the model. Valve says the pixels are illuminated in just 0.33ms, providing an invisible blur as the head moves.

Valve optics are equipped with two elements to cover a wide field of view and improve picture quality. The device allows you to adjust the distance between the lenses and align the eye to the optical center. In Index, the interpupillary distance range is 58 - 70 mm, which will suit most users. With the help of the adjustment, you can bring the lenses of the gadget as close to the eyes as possible. This can be done using a special handle located on the upper right side of the headset. Changing the position of the lenses by one centimeter allows you to narrow or expand the field of view in the virtual world by 30˚.

Eye-relief adjustment, like side-tilted displays, expands the field of view. Users can now see more space. The coverage of the glasses is 130 degrees.

Manufacturers have come up with an interesting audio solution. If you look at the photographs, you can see that the short-range speakers hang down at ear level without touching them. In this model, the sound quality has been significantly improved.

The bezel is attached with four magnets and is designed so that alternative third-party pads can be used later.

The developers have specified the following system requirements for the Index VR headset:

  • at least 8 GB of RAM;
  • DisplayPort 1.2 series
  • high-quality video card (NVIDIA GeForce 970, GeForce 1070, GTX 1080);
  • 4-core processor.

If the user has a weaker computer, then it is recommended to lower the screen refresh rate or resolution in the settings.

Equipment

The headset includes:

  • Power adapter.
  • DisplayPort 1.2 to USB 3.0 cable.
  • Two faceplates of different widths.
  • Cleansing wipe.
  • Instruction.

Valve Index Price

The device is not cheap, like many other virtual reality gadgets. At the moment, the Valve Index price is:

  • glasses - $ 499;
  • controllers - $ 279;
  • base for tracking (emitter) - $ 149;
  • a set of glasses + controllers - $ 749;
  • full set - $ 999.

You can buy a device in Ukraine as a complete set or separately. You can order on the official Valve website - Steam Store

Conclusion

There should be many options for a normal immersion in virtual reality. The Advanced Valve Index has everything the power user and enthusiast needs.

Technologically, this is a leap forward. If we compare this device with its competitors, then it has higher hertz, FOV, and less SDE. But it will take some time to set up the game space and educate newbies.

If you decide to have a good time visiting a VR club or immerse yourself in the world of games at home, then Valve Index glasses are a great opportunity to test advanced technologies in the field of virtual reality.
